Acceptable Use Policy
Last updated: April 28, 2026
This Acceptable Use Policy (“AUP”) applies to anyone using Homeschool Genius. It supplements our Terms of Service. Violating any part of this AUP can result in immediate removal of content, account suspension, and reporting to law enforcement where required.
Prohibited content
You must not upload, post, or transmit any content that:
- Sexualizes, exploits, or endangers a minor in any way. We have a zero-tolerance policy for child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Suspected CSAM is reported to the NCMEC CyberTipline as required by 18 U.S.C. §2258A and to law enforcement.
- Contains nudity, sexual content, or pornography of any participant — including the account holder. This is a tool for tracking schoolwork; intimate imagery is not appropriate content for the Service regardless of consent.
- Depicts real-world violence, gore, self-harm, or content that promotes any of the above.
- Promotes terrorism, organized crime, or violent extremism.
- Infringes copyright, trademark, trade secret, or other intellectual-property rights you do not own or have permission to use. Submit DMCA notices to our designated agent.
- Is unlawful in your jurisdiction or the United States, including controlled-substance content, securities fraud, etc.
- Contains malware, exploit payloads, or is encoded to evade our content scanners (steganography for prohibited content, disguised file types, etc.).
Prohibited conduct
- Harassing, threatening, or doxxing other users or third parties via the Service.
- Sharing another person's private information without their consent.
- Attempting to access another household's data, escalate privileges, or otherwise probe the Service's security posture except via a written security-research agreement with us.
- Reselling, renting, or sublicensing the Service or its data to third parties.
- Automated scraping, mirroring, or bulk-extraction of data beyond your own account's legitimate export needs.
- Using the Service to send spam, phishing, or unsolicited bulk communications.
What attachments are for
Attachments are for the work itself: photos of completed worksheets, scanned handouts, project artifacts, field-trip tickets, reading-list snapshots, etc. They are not for personal photos of children or family members. Keep uploads focused on schoolwork artifacts to minimize the risk of an automated content-safety classifier mistaking a normal family photo for something else.
What we do when content is flagged
New uploads are quarantined and scanned by an automated content classifier before they become viewable. Most uploads clear within seconds; if a scan can't complete, the content stays quarantined and is not displayed. If the classifier flags an upload as likely-violating, the content is blocked from display and a human reviewer evaluates within a reasonable time. CSAM- grade material is reported to NCMEC and the account is terminated immediately.
False positives happen. If a legitimate upload was incorrectly blocked, contact appeals@homeschoolgenius.org and we'll review.
Reporting violations
See something that violates this AUP? Email abuse@homeschoolgenius.org with details. For copyright issues use the DMCA process described in our Terms of Service.
Consequences
We may, in our sole discretion: warn you, remove or quarantine content, suspend or terminate your account, and report violations to law enforcement. CSAM and threats of imminent violence trigger immediate termination + reporting; other violations may go through a warning step depending on context.
